will Microsoft Update Their Games for Vista?

L

Larry Maturo

I wonder if Microsoft will update all their games for Vista? I knid of
doubt
it, some how. I have Microsoft Train Simulator, and it hasn't had an any
updates in a while. The same can be said for Microsoft's Flight Simulator,
and even their WWII Flight game, though I bellieve it was updated more
recently than the others. I hear that Microsoft's next Flight Simulator
update is due out early next year. All of these would benefit greatly
from 64bit support. Any idea if any of them will get it?

They already have - check out Start, All Programs, Games, and they're all in
there.

Larry;
Are you sure they need to be updated for Vista?
Train Simulator and Flight Simulator 2004 work fine on the latest Vista
build for me.
I have not yet tried Combat Flight Simulator 3 on Vista.

There's a difference between games that will work with Vista,
and games architecturally optimized. The above will work fine on Vista.
The key here, is whether the games will be 32bit, or 64bit. Initially,
Flight Simulator X (due out also at the end of the year) will be 32bit.
Later, they will be re-releasing it in a 64bit variant. So it all
depends on the architecture your CPU is, for which version you need to
buy.

The FSX Team has not mentioned anything about a 64-bit version of FSX. They
have however mentioned releasing a DirectX 10 update after Vista is
released. Meaning FSX could possibly look/perform better on aVista PC
equipped with a DX10 video card.

Just a little FYI for ya.

I doubt they will update them (unless of a serious bug), more they will make
new releases optimized.

The games as they are in Beta 2 will stick until RTM )

As of now, Age of Empires III is not working for me, and it's my only
Microsoft published game.

FSX will be updated to Vista and DX10. It's one of the Vista launch titles
meant to help show off the OS/Gaming capabilities.

It will launch a bit before the OS, and a patch will be available for DX10
features, though. But, "Launch" is a 3 month window in the business, too.

I just installed AOE III and played a short game on Vista Build 5384, so it
can work.
Try uninstalling it then rebooting before installing.

Are there any good sites that are focusing specifically on VIita/DX10 game
info and announcements?
I would love to see what games are geared for Vista launch, which games
currently have patches(Halo, etc).
I have only tried Oblivion, and it seems to have more video modes availalbe
and is as good if not better than Xp in the cities, but outside the cities I
am having sound issues, and lack of control during fighting.

My machine is rated 3...

I am not sure.
Start by looking at the various sites referred for Vista information.
Your best information will probably come from this newsgroup for obvious
reasons.

The computer I am testing Vista is a 1 and I have no problems.
Do not get to hung up on the numbers as the applicability in your specific
circumstances depends on your specific use.

Train Sim won't work for me either, I have a 3 rated computer. I tried
uninstall\reinstall, that didn't work.

Train Simulator works on mine.
Is your video card supported in Vista?
Verify with the card manufacturer if unsure.
Get the latest Vista video drivers.

Again, do not worry to much about the performance rating, supported hardware
and latest drivers may be more important.
