This also affects Windows Server 2000 but not Windows Server 2003.

Has anyone come across this problem and do they know a solution please?

If I ping a device on my C Class private network with an address UP TO
192.168.168.77 it works fine, - but if I use the format 192.168.168.077 as in
some later devices and software, The last segment seems to translate into
Octal.

I.e. If you ping 192.168.168.21 it works, but if you ping 192.168.168.021
you get the results for 192.168.168.17 !

I have tried this on different independent networks in different locations.

Is this a fault or am I missing something here?

Any help would be appreciated as this flaw is causing me some grief.

Thanks

Thanks Bob. I did not find that article when I did a search of the support
site.

Yes, I came across it some 14 years ago. It even tells you
on the screen the decimal address translated from octal. It's
by design, as Bob says, and the solution is not to use leading
zeroes in your IP addresses. Why would you?

Windows 2003 SBS does it too.
