Why would you use the Journal in Microsoft Outlook 2000?

I am considering starting to use the "Journal" in Outlook 2000.

I use the "Notes", "Tasks", "Contacts", and "Calendar" functions
already. And I could start using the email if there was a compelling
reason to do so.

So... what can the journal function do? Why would I turn the
Journal Function on? Does it record everything you do in Microsoft
Outlook?

Thank you

I use the Journal to time client events like phone calls, online research and
so on. You can start a journal entry, and stop it. You can enter an elapsed
time. You can create an entry when you get back to the office, and "journal"
all your contacts and activities.

Frankly, the automatic journaling of MSOffice software usage drives me
batty. If I open 7 or 8 files looking for the right version, Outlook tags
along, creating a journal entry with 0 minutes for every one. But when I get
lost in the creative stuff, like writing or working on a spreadsheet, I don't
have to remember to time it.
