Why won't spell check catch a single letter typed in a document?

I often type the word "be" and only "e" shows up; when I run spell check, it
doesn't flag it as a spelling error and I'm not sure why. I have tried to
enter "e" in auto correct to change it to "be" but it still doesn't catch it.

Single letters are never marked as incorrect spellings because letters can
be used as words (not to mention for numbering).
