spell check not catching mistakes

Using Office 2007- Windows Vista on both computers

My wife created a docx. with many mistakes and her spell check didn't flag
any of them. No boxes are checked to deny spell check in options. She then
e-mailed it to me and I ran my spell check and it said no errors. BUT if I
copy & paste it into a new docx. it then shows the errors. Why isn't hers
showing or catching errors and why didn't they show when I opened it the
first time but only after I copied it??
