Why surfing via DSL, DUN trys to connect

Periodically I will be surfing on my DSL connection and change URL's, select
an link and before the new page is displayed, I see Dialup Networking (DUN)
trying to connect. I can that and the new page is displayed in IE.
Any ideas what is causing this?

I am running XP Pro SP2

Thanks,
Kurtis

I am only running Windows Me, so my experience will not necessarily apply.
However, after a recent nasty system crash, which caused a restart to Safe
Mode, and some other configuration quirks, I had the same experience. After
three years of no such trouble!

I checked my DUN folder; somehow the default DUN setting had been changed
from "Never dial a connection" to "Always dial my default connection". The
result was that any time that I invoked an Internet access program, browser,
or mail client, the DUN would pop up and try to connect.

If Windows XP allows to disable the DUN by some other mechanism, do it. In
my case, the Dialing tab of the DUN Properties held the solution; I just
reset it to "Never dial a connection".
