Maybe it's also in other NG's, but in the Vista ones I've been following
many "From" don't make sense.
A lot of them start with... =?Utf...

This also probably means something, the news reader for all that I've
checked is..

Names need have no meaning. You can enter any name you choose. You can
change the name you use at any time. Consider using a name that you can find
when scanning a list of messages.

You also can use any email address you choose even if the address is not a
real one. You should never use your correct email address {unless your like
spam} unless it is a email address that you can configure to accept email
only from a limited number of senders.

No, not talking about what a person puts in as their name.

This has to be either a setting somewhere.
Like I said, it seems to be only in these NG's (vista related).
Maybe it's a result of people using Windows Mail?

Probably just the encoding your newsreader doesn't understand, I don't
see it myself.

AFAICT it is the combination of posting via the Microsoft web page
interface and reading the post via the XNews client.

Hi,

It's because they are not posting from a newsreader, but rather
Microsoft's web interface to these newsgroups. They sign in via
WindowsLive/Passport and use the CDO interface.

So basically there's no way to "fix" this using Xnews?

So no fix? :(
It seems to only affext the "from" field. Annoying, but managable I guess.

Hi,

It's in how your newsreader is interpreting the information from the
web-based posts. It's designed to interpret other newsreaders using the same
protocols, not web html.
