this is a question i have been pondering for many versions of outlook

it does pretty much everything else but doesnt have a news reader included

why is this - any ideas

Microsoft Outlook is a corporate e-mail client designed for Exchange.
Exchange does have the ability to house newsgroups.

As a side note, I've been working with addins that add the ability to have
newsgroups in Microsoft Outlook and I hate it. Threading absolutely sucks.
Call me a simpleton, but Outlook Express (or name your favorite newsreader
here) is much better suited as a newsreader when compared to addins that add
the ability to Outlook.

Yep, same here! I also hate it that you don't have the option to download
just header; send/receive takes a while this way and you can't sort on just
your conversations that include you. I found that the one from MAPILab was
close in copying the OE newsreader though;

Without a third-party add-in.
