News Reader-S

Hi, :)

I have outlook 2003 and OE SP2.
I use O2003 for mail and wanted to set up the news reader
but there wasn't one on the menus.
I setup OE for the news reader only, only to find out
that my ISP requires sign in (something new as of 2003).

I have to questions.

1. Is there actually two news readers. OE and one for O
2003?

2. I later found out that one must add the "News" item to
the "GO" menu.
I screwed that pretty good and reset the menus but,
A. before I did the reset I had NEWS on the main Menu and
clicked it and a news reader came up. However that was OE
news reader?

B. When I figured out how to add the News to the GO the
News itme was not in the list.
Help indicated if it was missing to look in the VIEW
list. But News was not there either.
I have looked everywher and there is no NEWS item to ADD
to the GO Menu.

C. If and when I get the reader setup, with the ISP
Account sign in,
does this mean I can not use a Handle with a Anti-Spam
addr as suggested by MS and almost required for News
Groups that are open to the public?

Please help me figure this out. I am so close.

Thank you,

SJ

There is really no such thing as Outlook News Reader. When you setup the
"Go" menu to include the button called "News", it opens up Outlook Express.

The only difference is that it does not go to Inbox as it would if you
opened OE normally, I think all the mail boxes are disabled, so that only
the newsgroup function works. (Not sure of that. I never tried to write mail
with OE when I opened it from the "News" command in Outlook.) And there is a
heading at the top that says "Outlook News Reader", or something like that,
but in fact it is just OE.

So, don't worry so much about setting it up. If you already have OE set up,
it's setup the same (for newsgroup reading) as if you open it the normal
way. Your subscribed groups and downloaded messages are all still there,
etc.

It's really no great convenience. There isn't even a hotkey for it. You have
to open the GO menu, and click on News. I have it there, but I also have an
icon for OE in the Quick Launch toolbar, and usually I find it easier to
open it that way.

Thanks, MS

That what I was thinking.
I did find the NEWS item and put it on GO

BTW: The hot keys for Menu items are letters with _ and Alt key. So from
O2003 to News Reader

Guess What?

It is working and using the alias.
Two tiny little settings. :)

Thanks again.
