My outlook is not clearing my POP mail from my yahoo account. I download the
same e-mails over and over again, up to 4 days old now.

I'm having the same trouble. There is a file that you are suppose to change
the name of and it is supposed to help. I did that, but every time I open
outlook express again, it recreates the file and I have 400 email from the
last 4 days come in.
Please Help.

I have has a similar problem for a couple of days now. I am using Outlook. I
can send messages but the receiving process takes a long time then times out
incomplete. This is the error message that keeps appearing in the
send/receive message box:

"Task 'mail.btinternet.com - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The
operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP)."

Consequently emails are coming into my Yahoo mailbox and staying there.
However, last night Outlook suddenly started delivering the emails ibut n a
loop. So it delivered the same 42 emails 4 times until I shut it down. Today
it's back to not delivering emails but continually bringing up the error
message.
I contacted our service provider, BT Yahoo, but have had no response
whatsoever.
Any thoughts??

1) Disable any antivirus integration with Outlook.
2) Make sure the server timeout value on the Advanced tab of your account
properties is adequately long.
3) Make sure your send/receive interval is adequately long.
4) See http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827349

Hi Brian,

thanks for your advice which I have followed to the letter. I have even
downloaded XP service pack 3 to resolve it but nothing's changed. I am going
to contact BT although I'm not terribly optimistic. But I am very fed up.

Thanks again. SL
