Why is the crop picture tool greyed out

I want to crop a photo in powerpoint. I have selected the picture and I have
the picture toolbar up. I can't figure out why the CROP button is greyed
out. (the RECOLOR and SET TRANSPARENT are also greyed out but I don't need
them.

Is your photo grouped with other objects? You cannot crop grouped objects in
PowerPoint. Another possibility: If the photo is the fill of an AutoShape,
it cannot be cropped either.

Kind regards,

Did you use "Photo Album" to insert the photo? If so, it is no longer
croppable. In that case you can either use an image editing program to do the
cropping before you use Photo Album. Or you could use ImageImporter Wizard - -

How did the photo get into PPT in the first place?
If it was copy/pasted from another app, that might be the problem.
Try ungrouping it.

See her reply above. 'Twas Photo Album, which inserts the photos as autoshape
fills.
