Crop photo using multiple points

Can I crop a photo in powerpoint other than using the crop tool. I want to
crop out an object from a photo. I usually do this in photoshop and import
it. I would need multiple points not just the 6 around the edge.

I was sure I did this along time ago but my brain synapes have tarnished.

Put your photo in the background.
Draw a shape exactly around the part of the photo you finally want.
Fill the shape with the background
Save the shape as an image.

I've drawn my shape over the background. I am trying to fill the background
into the shape.

I've tried cutting and pasting the photo into shape, importing the photo
file into the shape?? How the heck do I get it in there?
