Why dont my usb ports work?

ok i have a "plug and play" device but when i plug it into any of my usb
ports notjing happens, also i have no usb menu in my device manager how can i
fix this problem?

Which version of Windows are you running? What happens when you plug this
device into another computer, one that is running either WinXP Home or
Professional?

Do you have an Add-On USB PCI card or is it built-in to the PC?

If built-in, check you BIOS and see if USB detection is turned off.
If add-on PCI card, try Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device Manager
and Rescan.
