Why doesn't Autoarchive remove messages from folder as requested

I have folders set up to autoarchive messages older than 14 days. To test the
settings I ran Archive from the file menu and asked it to autoarchive all
folders based on their settings. One folder was left with messages older than
the 14 day limit, but they were not removed. I even re-set the folder to
delete the messages but that didn't work either. This is with Outlook 2000.

Check if the modified date (not the recieved date!) of the messages are
indeed older than 14 days.
