Why does Word 2003 on MS XP crash on closing every time - ideas?

I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 700m with MS Windows XP - it has a 2Ghz
processor and 1GB of ram - it is painfully slow and everytime I try to close
Word 2003 documents - it locks up then crashes and gives me a Word 2003 error
asking if I want to report the error to Microsoft - I have about 50 times now.

I reloaded Word 2003 - no effect on the issue. Thoughts?

Crashing on opening or closing generally is a sign of corruption. In this
case, either normal.dot or registry entries likely are corrupted, and when
Word tries to save its state settings when you close, it encounters
unexpected values somewhere, and goes nuts (techno-geek word for crashes).

I had a similar problem with outlokk on my dell inspiron 6000. It was tracked
it down to a software conflict with winfax. Try contacting dell they they
sorted my problem.
