Why does Word 2003 hang when closing it?

Office 2003/XP SP2
Word always hangs when I close it. Takes a minute before closing. MS
Office update says it is up-to-date. What other cause could it be?

This info covered "opening" of Word and crashes. My keys are okay, and I use
Office 2003 . I do not use Norton at this time. It does not crash, but
hangs with a "problem" error, then closes. Short of re-installing Office
2003, I don't know why this is happening.

The same issues that cause problems opening can also cause problems closing.
Try all the troubleshooting steps, anyway.

Reinstalling Office will be unlikely to make a jot of difference as the
problems are almost certainly not related to the core files

Word is crashing - that's what happens when it hangs! All the likely
problems are covered in the two links I posted earlier. Don't be thrown by
the reference to 'opening'. My guess is either an inappropriate add-in or a
minor corruption in normal.dot - both covered in the link.
