Why does my laptop loose its drive mappings over night?

How do I insure that my laptop users have all their drive mappings after
their laptop sits for the weekend?
Will XP loose drives if it goes into Standby?
Is there a way to run a script when it comes out of Standby to insure the
all the drives are there?
I'm not sure why, but the issues of loosing drive mappings seems to happen
more to our laptops then desktop computers.
Is this because of the power settings, ie Standby?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Does it just say 'disconnected'?
Does it work when you try tyo access said drive mappings?

There is a timeout.

If you use the standard menu for mapping drives, you get the option to
reconnect the mapping at logon. However, a laptop gone home for the weekend
will not find the mapped resource, and pop up a window allowing the user to
opt to not try to find a mapped resource on the next logon. That will clear
your mappings, and require resetting them. I don't know how to prevent a
user from choosing the wrong option when the mapped resource is flagged as
"not present".

I found my laptop going home would disconnect (as others have stated)
and I found that a simple network.bat file with a series of
net use X: \\computer\share
worked great to reset all the drives.

You can even get fancy and make sure they are disconnected first then
reconnect them all.

Have them reboot the computers at the start of each day. Laptop
cooling systems aren't designed to allow a laptop to be left powered on
for such extended periods.

It'll even disconnect from network drives if there is no traffic within
a reasonable time, but the reconnection is usually transperent. Be that
as it may, it probably should lose network connections in Standby, yes.
Otherwise, there'd be no power-savings to Standby.

You con probably set some sort of innocuous scheduled event to wake the
computers up periodically, but why? Is it your goal to shorten the
service life of these computers?

That would be because desktops are designed for such continuos, long
periods of operation; laptops aren't.

It would be controlled partially by the OS' power settings, and
partially by the BIOS'.
