Why do I keep getting this errror message when I shut down?

For the past few weeks, more often than not, when I shut my laptop down at
work, I get this error message.

If I click OK, my laptop continues shutting down. If not, it goes away by
itself and my laptop continues shutting down.

Both at work and at home, when I shut down, I close all windows.

Variants are that at home, I have an external monitor plugged into the V2
port and I'm on Comcast wireless cable through a Netgear router, both
wireless and an ethernet line plugged into my laptop. At work, I'm using the
built in laptop's monitor. Connection is through Deltacom. When I start up
and for the first few hours, my laptop is on wireless and an ethernet line.
When I shut down, it's been off of the ethernet line for usually at least a
half hour.

I don't see how those variants could affect anything, but I thought I'd
better toss them out there just in case.

Also, I only get the error message after my laptop has been on for several
hours at work. It does not happen when my laptop has been on for a short
time at work and never when at home no matter how long it's been on.

Anyone know what it's doing, why it's doing that and how to correct it?

Look through the eight "hits" in this Google search, and see if anything
strikes a chord:

Did you try looking for errors involving hpqgpc01.exe at shutdown ?
Apparently, that is HP software. This isn't your exact error number,
so this is just an example.

Maybe have a sniff over at the HP forums, as referenced in the
previous thread.

Note the following from your post: " "I only get the error message after my
laptop has been on for several
hours at work. .and never when at home no matter how long it's been on."

The message is one of several "generic" types - since it only occurs at
work, you need to consider the laptop function at work - are you connecting
to devices or using applications not available at home?
