WHY DO FOLDERS STOP ACCEPTING EMAILS FOR SAVING

I have two folders that just stopped accepting emails sent to them. Their
sub folders will still accept the email for storage. There is no warning (so
I have lost emails not realizing that they were not saved)If anyone knows the
answer or how to fix I would appreciate an answer.
