Why are Task Manager & Registry Windows not staying on the monitor

When I try to access my task manager a screen appears but then dissappears
right away. It will not stay on the screen no matter what I do. When I try
to run taskmgr.exe in RUN, it will not bring it up either. When I type in
regedit to show my registry I am having the same problem. It appears and
then goes away in a single second. I don't know what to do? Please help.

try first to run antivirus, antispyware....

or here:

if not presence of virus or malware run system restore:
turn you computer on - press F8 and select restore with command prompt and
type:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
enter and restore your computer.

if this didn't work:
run this utility:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/TaskManager_Reset.reg

and read this article and run the utility:

The type of behavior you describe is typical behavior of more than
one virus/worm, the three below being the most common:

W32.Klez

W32.Yaha
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

W32.Spybot.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html

Because many of the newer viruses and worms, such as the Spybot
mentioned above, can disable antivirus applications whose definitions
aren't kept up-to-date, try using one or more of the free on-line
scanners to double-check your system.
