Why are attachments to email not being received?

I have a new Dell with XP. When sending attachments to email from Outlook,
sometimes recipients tell me either they did not get the attachment or it
arrived as a .dat file.

What is the cause and solution to this problem? Tks to anyone.

Make sure you use HTML or Plain Text format when sending messages to Outlook
Express users, or users of any other e-mail client besides Outlook. Don't
use Rich Text format, which is proprietary to Outlook and will cause problems
for other recipients, one of which is that they won't get your attachments.

You most likely are sending a file type that is restricted from sending by
outlook. To send this type of file put in in a compressed (zipped) folder
and then attach and send the compressed folder with the file in it.

Thank you, but I am using HTML - yet attachments are sometimes received and
other times not, even to the same recipeint. Do you have other suggestions
or settings for Norton, Outlook, Windows, etc.? This problem began as soon
as I started to use the new PC. Thanks for any other advice.

Are you using the same mail profile from your old computer or did you let
Outlook create a new one?

I think you're barking up the wrong tree, given the OP's stated symptoms.
