I have just had to re build my PC's version Windows XP from the
original CD... Very frustrating. This was due to MSI & Windows
Update not working any more.....
So... my version of XP is from 2002 and has no service packs.
Therefore should I go straight in and load SP3?

After installing Windows XP RTM, install SP2 then SP3.
Are you sure antipodean? I would slipstream my gold version with
SP3 before installing. Why would anyone take all the trouble of
installing XP, then install SP2 then install SP3. It will take a
whole day!
Slipstream your original XP with SP3 (10 minutes) and then install
it on your new system (39 min).
You didn't think of this right? It could be those bottles of 4x
you have been drinking lately!
SAQless, good to see you. I see you still have no clue where I am located.
But enough of the greetings...
I am positive. The OP already installed Windows XP RTM... They could
install SP2 and SP3 on most machines in under 2 hours - including
downloading - both of them, with high speed Internet.
To download/integrate and create a new CD would make sense if they planned
on doing this more often - but given their current state - just
download/install SP2 followed by downloading/installing SP3 is the easiest
course of action, straight-forward, complete. They need SP1a or SP2 in
order to install SP3. Might as well just get SP2 (which has a bunch of
enhancements beyond just patches) on there and then SP3.
BTW - downloading SP3 and integrating it into a Windows CD and burning a new
CD - 10 minutes, really? Even if you have SP3 already downloaded, 10
minutes to integrate into the installation media and burn a new CD - really?
The 39 minutes for a Windows XP installation - you've gone through quite a
bit of time before you ever see that first 39 minute timer start, you do
realize that, right? And it's not really all that accurate to begin with -
I compare it to Apples "about a minute"...
Have a good day, SAQless. It's good to see you posting strong. Don't let
the man get you down.
