Im looking to upgrade my Processor but have no idea where to start, im
currently running an AMD Duron(tm) version 5.1.2600.0 and running windows XP.

Im only looking to spend say 70-80 quid, is it possible to get a fairly good
one for this, if so which should i go for as i have no idea what will be
compatible with my compter.

Many Thanx

Hi Simon

You have not given any details about your motherboard / pc so it may be
running the fastest CPU it can. OR were you getting a new mo/bo as well.?

Without knowing any other details about your pc i can only suggest.....
I would not upgrade just the cpu because depending on the motherboard it is
probably just a waste of money.
I would wait until you can afford a cpu, motherboard and depending on how
old your pc is new memory (DDR)

Read the reviews people have left and the specs and you will be able to work
out what other bits you need to get the best out of your ££££
At a guess i would say you have SDRAMM ( 2 groves cut into the stick of ram.
DDR has 1 grove)
If you have SDDRAM then i wouldnt spend anymoney on the pc as it is old....!!

On this site
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/store/2/cat/Processors

navigate.... processor, motherboards, desktop memory and select what you
like. 939 pin cpus are what I like but the whole kit (pci-e graphic cards and
a 24pin psu could put the price up)
Or go for a Skt A which is much cheaper.

Have a look and see what your budget can do.
939pin is what I would buy as it it the best in my opinion. it also has best
future upgrade options for the future. ( x2 dual core cpus 939pin.)

Hope this is of help to you.

What you get is entirely dependant on your motherboard.. go to the
manufacturer website and look to see what is compatible with your system..

motherboard fitted but had to have an old processor fitted at the time, the
Motherboard is a ABIT KV7 Series - AMD Athlon XP System Board Socket 462
