Which one?

I

Ira

I am currently running too many anti spyware programs. I find that running
in the background they are stealing too many cycles. I want to get down to
no more than 2. Here is the list of what I have running.
AdAware
SpyBot S&D
Ewido
MSAS
PcCillin2006
Tooooo much. I am thinking of using only MSAS and PcCillin2006 and on a non
schedule every once in a while Ewido. Any suggestions will be considered.
Thanks

Ira

Two won't do it. Could you check and see which defenders are using the most
cycles?

Walterius,
Old, and running Ad-Aware free, AVG Free, Spyware Guard, MSAS, Spybot S&D,
and Spyware Blaster. I may not need both Spyware Guard and MSAS, but they
both spot stuff, so I let them run.

It is good to have several antispyware programs but only one should run in
the background. More than that can cause conflicts.

Hi

Keep:
PcCillin2006 main protection
Ewido
Adaware as a on demand scanner

MSAS is in a deep crise nowadays, check some
Hijack This logs from the URLs I posted that
MSAS is presence and running but do NOT protect a user.

Spybot adds nothing in my opinion.

CCleaner is also important for "Clutter" removal.

Hi Plun, Thanks for your response. Your choices are exactly what I was
thinking of doing. I believe that too many users are using too many
programs and don't realize how much they are really slowing their systems
down because of cycle stealing. I really hope that the "group" that is
attempting to standardize definitions suceeds and doesn't just twiddle their
thumbs. For the present I will keep MSAS because I enjoy contributing to
the NG's.
Thanks again.
Ira

Walterius, You are currently running 6 anti spyware and no anti virus. The
6 that you are running are stealing so many cycles that you PC is probably
operating at a snail pace. I think that you have been suckered in by by
products that come up with false positives in order to get you to use(buy)
them.
Good luck.

Again...most antispyware programs are run "one at a time" so the problem of
several isn't really a problem unless you are talking about having several
doing "real time" protection...that is, running in the background. For
example, I use SpywareBlaster to "inoculate" my system against known
scoundrels (it does not run in the background). I use Adaware SE, Spybot
Search & Destroy, and MSAS for "on demand" scanning. I chose MSAS as the
only one to run in the background for "realtime" protection. My antivirus
program is McAfee VirusScan Online. I also have Hijack This and CWShredder
for the rare occasions that I would need them.
