Which news group can help with making bootable ISO cd?

..ISO files are by themselves not bootable, you must first extract the files
contained within the .ISO file.
To do this you need Nero or Easy CD/Media Creator software to create a
bootable CD from the .ISO file
(This assumes that the .ISO file was designed to be used in creating a
bootable version of whatever software it contains).

Don't have Nero or Easy CD creator.
See: IsoBurn as a free alternative.

ought to make an attempt at one using your default newsreader.
Set the port to 1198 in order to see and post. Default is 119,
so you'll need to find it and reset it to 1198 for that server.

I don't know since you forgot to tell us which "bootable ISO cd" you're
interested in making. In general, you burn an .iso as an image, not as a
data file and you need to use third-party burning software to do it.

And if he really is at the level of a "Dr. Dos", he should know that
already.

Let's try this again: which windowsxp newsgroup, by name,
would be best to ask questions about making bootable cds
that run an iso file? For instance, this newsgroup is named
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general. My newsreader is working
well.
Thank you.

None. WinXP lacks the capability to create CDs from ISO files, so
there are naturally no WinXP-related newsgroups that cover the topic.

Additionally, I've never heard of any kind of CD, bootable or
otherwise, that "runs an iso file." Normally, CDs are created *from*
ISO files.

OK. So... I have download an ISO file (Memtest86+-2.01.ISO).
This runs tests on computer memory. Simply double clicking
on this ISO file from Windows Explorer/File Manager produces
no action. I understand this program/application has to run
from the cd at boot-up. When I copy ("make data cd") using
Nero, the computer will not boot from that CD. When I "make
a bootable CD" using Nero, the ISO file does no start. I
have used the Nero default boot info (Caldera dos), and then
on other cds a Win98SE boot floppy as source boot, and then
a floppy formated by WinXP-Pro. All three of these have
the boot info copied from the floppies (one floppy boot set
per separate cd)cds and each will boot the computer. The the
ISO will not run automatically, or if I call call it at the
command line by full name or memtes~1.iso.
I just want to know how to make a cd that works.
If this is not the right forum, can you direct me?

Yes. Of course. I have been using Nero"make a bootable CD"
function. See above. Thank you.

I guess you are ignorant of how to do this. I asked for some
help. You obviously do not know how, or you would have
offered direction. When DOS was king, there were no CD-Roms,
no ISO 9600. Go play in park and stay out of the street.

Google is your friend.

"RUN" an iso file???????? No - that makes no sense. Google?

Exactly. (OR even more commonly, in other ways; that's sure not the only
way :-)

Use Nero to "open" the .iso and burn it to CD.
Start Nero.
If the "New Compilation" dialog opens, then close it.
File | Open, and select your .iso file.
Insert a blank CD.
Click "Burn".

The .iso is an image of the files on a bootable CD, including all the
"boot stuff"

Good Luck.

CORRECTION: you have to use a bootable cd in order to transform the iso file
into a bootable iso file (using the program "MagicISO").

See, if you'd said "I need to turn the Memtest86+ program into a bootable
CD" you'd have gotten the answer immediately instead of having this long,
stupid thread.

You have Nero. Insert a blank CD-R into your drive. Open Nero and choose
"burn as image". Navigate to where you saved the Memtest .iso file. Burn
the disk.

When you are finished burning the disk, restart your computer and boot from
the optical drive. You may need to change your boot order in the BIOS. Many
BIOSes have the ability to temporarily change the boot order by pressing
F12 or Esc or the like.

The computer will now boot from the Memtest86+ disk you made and the test
will run immediately. You can remove the disk after the test has started.
