Make Bootable from MSDN download iso

S

SAL

Hello,
I downloaded the iso image from msdn downloads and made a CD out of it but
it's not bootable. Is there a way to make that image a bootable image? I
need to repair the SATA drivers on my system and don't want to do a complete
reinstall. I have the drivers on a floppy from my motherboard manufacturer?

Thanks in advance

Try burning the ISO using the freeware ImgBurn:

SAL,

Is it just this CD that doesn't boot automatically or do you have others? If
all bootable discs then set CD as the first bootable device in the BIOS
otherwise it sounds like you have created a data disc & not an disc from the
actual image. When browsing the disc, do you see the folder structure within
or just one file?

What exactly was it that you downloaded? Not all iso images create bootable
CD's just as not all CD's are bootable.

What ISO?? ISO images are exact copy of a CD. To make a ISO image
bootable, the original CD MUST be bootable.

John,
thanks. I did wind up doing that and it created a bootable CD. It didn't
solve my problem but I did get a bootable CD.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the update.

If you describe the original problem...
maybe someone could help with that.

Well, my original problem was that I was upgrading my memory over the
weekend and had trouble getting the new memory to work. I wound up changing
some of the DRAM timings and voltage settings and still couldn't get it to
work so I went back to the original DIMMs I had in the system.
This system had two hard drives in it, and IDE and a SATA drive. The SATA
drive was my bootable device with XP pro installed on it sp3.

After I had gone back to the original DRAM the system was not likely it so I
cleared CMOS via motherboard jumper settings.
After I did that, the SATA drive was no longer being recognized by the
system. It shows up in the initial boot up screen but it's not accessible in
the BIOS. So, I can set it to be the bootable device.

I didn't think this was the correct place to post such a problem so I didn't
post all that info originally.

When I booted to the bootable CD, I pressed F6 to load SATA/SCSI drivers and
it still didn't recognize the drive so I don't know what's going on or how
to get it working again.

Whoa...that's pretty involved...

You might find some help on the annexcafe server
in the 'annexcafe.general.user2user' newsgroup.

But you would have to create a free account...

And then....

You can set up the following server in OE6.

I know huh? :)

I have a guy coming tonight to see if he can help me. If he can't, and I've
paid him good money, I'll try this option next if I don't throw the thing
out the window first... ;)
