Thinking of buying a laptop to replace my current P2 233.
Must have XP Pro, would like 512MB RAM,but 256MB would be OK.
Oh must be under £450 if possible:thumb:
Not sure were the best place to look is, any ideas?

I've always liked Dells - cheap and reliable and Quad has had good success with IBM (a bit more expensive, but excellent quality).

Do you need any specific requirements or game usage? :)

It's going to be used as a second pc mostly for writing letters & going on the net via a wireless connection, Need XP Pro as some of the software i will be using is only compatable with Pro Ed.

feckit,

Before you commit to a laptop please do check out the Ibm R series and also the Z series. You needs are very basic and any laptop with XP will do the job but cheap laptops from brands other than IBM usually do not offer XP Pro.

I am using IBM since last 6 years and this is my third unit (older ones still in use at office), besides, I have bought 6 IBM for my friends and they are very happy with the quality and performance. Gabriella also bought one on my recommendation and she is very happy with it.

All my crunching is done on the IBM T43 and it is practically in use 24/7 except when I am driving between home and office.

Cheers Quad & Ady :thumb:
I think spending a bit more is probably going to be better.
Will have a look at both Dell & IBM/Lenovo over weekend. ;)

Hey mate,

I recently did some research into laptops and found Dell were about the best. The girl in question on my recommendation bought a Dell 6400 for just under £600. The specs were as follows (im a bit drunk so dont quote me!!):

Intel Duo Processor
1Gb Ram
80GB HD
CD Writer/DVD Player
15.4" Screen
Built in WIFI
ETC ETC BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Seemed pretty good for the money mate. Should have a look at the Dell website.
