Which HAL?

Hi, when installing Windows XP, you are able to choose which Hardware
Extraction Layer (HAL) is appropriate to your system. My question is how do
you know which of the following options is suitable for your system?

-ACPI Multiprocessor PC
-ACPI Uniprocessor PC
-Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
-Compaq SystemPro Multiprocessor or 100% Compatible PC
-MPS Uniprocessor PC
-MPS Multiprocessor PC
-Standard PC
-Standard PC with C-Step i486
-Other

Thanks in advance

The visual of your computer is simply not coming through the
ether and displaying on the monitor. It is doubtful that the
proper HAL would be for "other" or MPS. There is a possibility
that it could be a Compaq SystemPro if the computer is a true
server. This leaves the 3 ACPI possibilities (2 if uniprocessor)
and Standard PC.

Re-post with more information on the motherboard and configuration
or read the manual.

wildlywicked,

If you open Device Manager, expand 'Computer', it tells you the which
configuration you have. Mine says 'Advanced Configuration and Power
Interface (ACPI) PC'. Since I'm not familiar with these configurations I
doubt I selected this option manually during installation, I don't recall.
