Are frontpage extensions the only component that a server might need to host
pages developed in Frontpage?

So if a page does not use these extensions then the page can be hosted on
any server. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks

That's correct unless you're using any server side scripting like ASP or
ASP.NET (like if you used the database wizard). Then you'd need a server
that supported it. But straight HTML pages can be hosted on any server

What you need on a server depends on what you need the website to do,
and how you need to do it.
Plain HTML pages will run on any server.
Forms will require a form handler - this may be FPextensions, asp,
asp.NET, PHP, Perl etc. The server will have to support at least one of
these.
Hit counters - server logs are more accurate.
Database: An Access database can only be hosted on a Windows server. A
MySQL database can be hosted on any server, but must be provided by the
host. As for forms, the server must also support the server side
scripts used to access the database.
Other features and scripts - as for forms, there must be support for
these on the server if the feature requires it. Until you decide which
features are required, it is impossible to say what support is needed.
