First make sure all traces of Norton are off your computer. This may
require a reformat :) I recommend and use Avast: http://www.avast.com/

http://free.grisoft.com for AVG

Irrespective of what you choose, make sure you completely and cleanly
uninstall all traces of NAV.

After you've done the stanadrd uninstall, AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY
OTHER NORTON/SYMANTEC PRODUCTS, make sure you also uninstall the live
update option (not automatically done with the virus uninstall) and
there will be another one in the Add/REmove Software but I can't think
what it is.

Then go in and manually remove the Norton/Symantec directories from
Program Files and Program Files/Common directories.

It's a very nasty piece of software and leaves many many trails behind
after unistall.

You can completely remove all traces of Norton by downloading the SymNRT.exe
file from their web site.

Does not remove the coded registry entry for antivirus definition
subscription expiration date if anyone is wondering.

Not 100% effective - Leaves numerous remnants behind. Various
products (by Year designation) clean up better than others. That
being said the one thing that gets orphaned is Non Plug-&-Play
drivers that must be removed manually (Identified by Sym....) I've
done ' Syman-'TecOmies" ' on hundreds of PCs and it's more than
Add/Remove, Folder removal. You have to clean up Services &
remove enough Registry keys to comprise it's own Operating System.

When I ran it the removal was total, after re-installing Norton the
subscription date was as if I had installed a new copy with a full year plus
on subscription renewal.
