I have been paying on line £25 per year for nortons antivirus subscription
that was installed on my new pc but only free for 6 months, as its now due
again and i am wondering if there is a reliable free antivirus system that
anyone could recommend. also if there is would i just leave the norton one
or uninstall it and repace it with the free one

thanks in antisipaiton xx L

£25 is a small price to pay for the security. There is AVG Anti-Virus,
though.

That's about 4 times more than I have ever paid for a
subscription renewal.
For that price I can get Norton 2005 Internet PAckage
(NAV2005 and FW.)

Someone is exaggerating or misinformed. :)

Try one of these: http://www.pricelessware.org/thelist/sec.htm#Anti-Virus

Any of them are good. F-prot for dos won't work with XP-ntfs.

after reading a revue in the mozilla news forums, I
selected the free scanner from www.avast.com ( home use is
free )
AVG free fails to find over 25% of virues / trojans.
avast also updates automatically.
When I removed AVG and put on avast, it found three files
infcted with trojans!

You get what you pay for. The last time I looked, AVG hadn't updated its
data files in weeks.

If you are installing another Antivirus Program, you can remove Nortons. It
will be taking up space on you HD. If you don't want to remove it, until
you are satisfied with the new program, then disable it, so there will be no
conflict between the two.

The general free recommendation is AVG6 from www.grisoft.com. You can
also currently get a free one year trial of the excellent eTrust from
www.my-etrust.com/microsoft which includes a firewall from Zone Alarm
too. I use that AV and the renewal this year was $9.95 - or not much
over £5

I would get rid of Norton completely
