where is XP popup stopper?

My operating system is Windows XP Home Version 5.1 (Build
2600.xpsp1.020828-1920: Service Pack1) and my browser is Internet Explorer
Version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920. I do not see popup ads, so I must
have a popup stopper working. However I cannot find a switch for it on the
Internet
Explorer toolbar. Where is it?

You dont have it.....XP with SP2 has pop-up stopper, you'd find it in internet
options,privacy or security tabs..By default its turned on,but again,w/o SP2
its not installed..

Hi,

SP1? You must have other third parties installed. Either way, the
checkpoint would be: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Pop-up window
management/Options.

NO embeded POP-UP STOPPER ON SP1 (not sure on this), but Get Service
Pack 2 using Windows Update or here
www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html
also
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4

after installing Service Pack 2 follow the url below
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/web/sp2_popupblocker.mspx
hope this helps..

Install Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Advanced Security Technologies from
either Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) or from Microsoft
Download
Center(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en)

Make sure you are virus & spyware free before installing this, and also
disable your anti virus software during setup to avoid any conflicts.

Once installation has completed you will be prompted to restart your
computer and configure automatic updates if you have not done so. No action
on your part is required, the new pop-up blocker is enabled by default for
you.

You might have a look at Mozilla FireFox instead. It has a pretty good
pop-up blocker and also an effective ad blocker thta speeds up your
document loads by not even attempting to contact the ad sources.
After I tested out FireFox about half a year ago I have not looked
back.

WinXP SP1 has no built-in pop-up blocker. You'll need to consult the
directions that came with whatever 3rd party pop-up blocker you've
installed.

You can't possibly know that. Besides the popup stopper in SP2, there are
*many* third-party programs that do this. He probably has one of these
installed.

Wrong, Ken.

The OP asked where the "XP" popup stopper was, not his/her
"third-party" popup stopper.

That sings out pretty loud that they expect this to be something
already there, not something they installed separately.

You may be righ about what he expects, but I'm not so sure. Yes, the subject
line reads "where is XP popup stopper?" but the text of his message reads
"...so I must have a popup stopper working." That "*a" popup stopper,"
rather than "*the* popup stopper" says to me that he's talking about a popup
stopper that's not the XP one.

Moreover, regardless of what the OP expects, he's running SP1, which has no
popup stopper. Since he says " I do not see popup ads, so I must have a
popup stopper working," he very likely does have a popup stopper installed,
and since it can't be the WIndows one without SP2, it has to be a
third-party one.

Thanks very much for the help! I thought I already had SP2, but apparently I
do not. So I will correct that situation. Thanks again.
