XP Home SP1 Will not boot after SP2 is applied

I have a computer that has XP Home with SP1. It runs software that is part of
a Frame Specifications measurement system in an autobody repair facility. I
have applied SP2. After applying SP2 the computer obviously has to be
restarted and when it does, it gets to the point where "Windows XP' displays
with the strobing green bar. At that point, it reboots and goes to the safe
mode choices screen. It will go into safe mode (where I did a system restore
to get the machine functioning again) but repeats the cycle if "Normal Mode"
is selected. I found several posts that refer to DVD writers with old
firmware causing the issue (disconnected and got same results) as well as a
thread describing the use of MPSReports to identify troublesome "filters"? I
have ensured it is not some form of software by installing a new hard drive
and installing OS from scratch. The same results happen the moment SP2 is
applied. Convinced it is a hardware issue...does anyone have any suggestions
or experiece with identifying the offending component?
Here is the system info if it helps:

Try here - if you search/find for your subject you will find a few where
there are 'update' problems with SP2.

Your post subject is confusing.

1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot.

2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis
log to an appropriate forum.

Check for Hijackware
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm

When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe)
is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware.

**Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or
other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.**

3. Do not install SP2 until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill
of health.
