I get a messgage that the system cannot locate the modem. This is after I
installed XP Home. I ran msconfig and ran the add devices and services and I
still have the problem. Please help

This sounds suspiciously like you did not install the modem and drivers
in accordance with the installation instruction provided by the modem
manufacturer. Start by reading them first.

:

Look in Device Manager. Right click My Computer | Manage | System Tools
| Device Manager. Exand the modem section. Is there an entry for one?
Right click on it and select properties. Does it say the device is
working properly?

I noticed you started a later thread on this issue too. You need to
stick with one thread.

actually I'm referring to the modem software, I guess. Because the modem
itself works fine. But I seem to recall a dialer program with which you can
dial telephone numbers using the modem.

And, the modem came with this HP computer all set up, so I did not have to
install anything - but again, I can't locate or start the dialer program.
Does anyone know it's name - ????.exe or something?

Thanks.

found it!

Now, is there a way to set up the phone dialer with a microphone plugged
into my external mic port on the front of the computer? The OEM modem card
does not have a mic input jack, just a connection for the phone line.

Such a setup would then be like a speaker phone.

Everything seems to work re: the dialer - dials a number and connects but
when I speak into the mic - nothing is heard at the other end. the mic is
working because I can hear my voice through the computer speakers - I've
tweaked all the options I can think of but it seems the modem doesn't
recognize or isn't connected to the external microphone.

I'm new at all this stuff so any help is appreciated.

thanks.

|Hi,
|I have similar problem. When |I dial a number, number is dialled and
ringtone of receiving phone rings, but voice is not heard. Does it have
anything to do with the Window compatibility of modem. My modem is external
one. Do I have to use modem port or sound card of my PC?

To run the dialer, just click Start | Run and in the Run box, type
dialer.exe. This will open the dialer window
