Where Is Direct X

D

Dennis

I just tried to install some benchmarking software and it
refused to work as it needed Direct X 8.1 or higher
installed on the machine. I thought it had been loaded
with Win XP-Home, but in doing a search of the machine I
found Direct X files in Win Sys 32 and Com/ms/direct X,
but nothing that looked like an .exe file. I checked
everywhere but cannot fine the .exe file which brings up
the Direct X panel with the tests and information.

Can anyone help me with this, TIA

Dennis

Goto: start, run, type in: dxdiag
This file should be in c:\windows\system32

If it's missin maybe you need to reinstall dx or upgrade to dx 9.

Greetings --

DirectX8.1 shipped as an integral part of WinXP. Start > Run >
Dxdiag.exe.

Direct X is not an executable. Go to Start - Run and run
dxdiag

and it will tell you what version of Direct X you are using and whether
all is well with it. I think you may find in an unenhanced XP that you
are at 8.0 rather than 8.1 - and need the upgrade to a later version.
This is now Direct X 9.0b
