Direct X Diagnostic tool error

Guest

When trying to run the Direct X Diagnostic Tool, to troubleshoot a software
problem, I receive the following error message:
Dxdiag.exe-Bad Image
The application or DLL c:\windows\system32\dxdiagn.dll is not a valid
windows image.
Please check this against your installation diskette

And

DxDiag Error
Error: Could not load DXDIAGN.DLL

The file does exist in the listed folder.

Tried to download Direct X again and receive the message that the newest
version is already installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick J.

I too am having this problem, it only started recently and I can not even
place the event that would have caused it. I clicked to play the Sims 2 and
the message bubble from hades popped up saying and I quote "The application
or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\dxdiagn.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please
check this against your installation diskette." I tried re-installing Direct
X to no avail. HELP! I just wanna play the Sims 2, have my itunes work again,
and all without that message popping up. It seems to have made the display
show wrong, Sims 2 no longer will display in 1024 by what have you only in
800 by 640 which is kind of bad, and the graphics are no longer smooth.
