Where does Windows mail belong on Vista?

I was helping someone move files from an XP to a Vista machine and exported
all of his Outlook Express email, copied that file to the desktop on the
Vista machine, then imported it into Vista's email program.
However the folder for email is now on his desktop, and is called Old Email
backup. I know that one of these days he is going to delete it and wonder
where his email went.
What is the default folder it should have created the email in? I will move
it there.

You don't say how you exported the OE mail.
You should have copied all of the OE dbx files to the Vista computer, then
File, Import, Messages, OE6, Browse (to the moved OE files).
The email should be in WM folders. The desktop folder should no longer be
needed.

Not even a workaround. Just WRONG.
Data from OE can not be transferred to WinMail this way !!!

It's been a while since I moved the mail - as far as I remember it was just
an export on XP, copy that file to the Vista PC, then import. But I copied
to and imported from a temp folder on the Vista desktop, and didn't realize
that that is where the mail is now stored. I will move it as the previous
poster suggested and set the default to that. I just didn't want to create
another headache for anyone else helping with his computer by not putting it
into a standard folder. Having an Old Mail folder on the desktop is asking
for trouble!

I will move it there, thanks.

Hi,

Try to Move the Files to the following location, and try to open the
Windows Mail and check.

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

Hope this Helps.
