What's a Display Switch?

Hi, Folks - When I boot up, I get a blackscreen that says at the bottom
"display switch is set incorrectly, Override enabled, defaults loaded". Right
at the bottom of the screen, highlighted, is a choice to F1 - continue or DEL
- enter setup. If I do the latter, go to CMOS and alter the clock from
31.12.2002 to the real date, F10 & Save settings, Windows starts. If I
restart any time, sometimes it starts with the correct time but next day, I'm
right back to square one, clock set at just before midnight on 31.12.2002. If
at the blackscreen I go to F1 continue, it starts but with the 31.12 clock
setting. What the heck is a 'display switch', how do I reset it? what is
'correct'? Is this normal? My CMOS says boot from hdd01 1st, cdrom 2nd &
floppy 3rd, Isn't this upside down?

The problem your having with time settings may be an indication that the
CMOS battery on your motherboard needs to be replaced. When a battery fails
the CMOS gets reset to the default values. Here are a couple of web sites

I agree with Nepatsfan regarding the CMOS battery
possibility, and it's quite possible that the time problem
is triggering the Display Switch message. It may be that
your CMOS has PCI selected as the primary display adapter
when it should be set to AGP. Check it out because it's
common that when the CMOS battery fails, the default value
for the primary display reverts to PCI . . .
