Why would it be necessary to fix a keyboard error when the
problem is probably due to the mechanical-electrical aspects
of the keyboard. IOW, replace it with a similar one. This will
be needed in any event to offload a copy of the Windows OS that
should be sitting in its own partition or folder on the hard
drive.

Otherwise, contact the OEM, if still in existence, and obtain
a cdrom copy of Windows XP.

A computer OEM installing XP has to provide you with some means of restoring
the system. They have three options:

1. Installation CD
2. Restore/Recovery CD
3. Hidden partition on the hard drive with an image of the drive.

Check the documentation that came with the system or contact the tech
support for the computer vendor. Lastly why reinstall to fix a keyboard
problem?

Your spacebar doesn't work. Try another keyboard.

You can either buy a Windows CD or you can try asking the PC maker for a
copy of their OEM version, you will probably need to quote serial numbers
and perhaps the windows key if there's a sticker on the machine

Beware that factory restore disks usually do just that, restore to factory
state, which means you will lose all your personal data unless you back it
up and you MUST in either case make visiting Windows Update a priority.

Reinstalling Windows would be like replacing the engine when the windshield
is broken. It's not going to help this problem, change the keyboard.
