What takes so long to fix the update problems?

Hi, just some info here:
I currently have WD with the signature version is 1.14.1389.7 and that
definitions haven't been updated in 29 days. I have downloaded the signature
version 1.14.1436.4 (KB915597) from the Windows Update Site (Automatic
Updates disabled at the moment) and everytime I go back to the site it tells
me it has downloaded but still has to be installed. So I installed it (the
same thing) several times and nothing happened yet. After trying WD "Check
for Updates" I get the message that things are up-to-date. Funny though, that
before 1.14.1389.7 everything was updated, installed and working fine. What
changed and why does it take so long to fix.
Cheers,

With Automatic updates disabled, Windows Defender will never update within
the program.

However, as you've observed, something else is still wrong.

I would recommend proceeding as follows:

1) download Windows Defender anew:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en

(a newer build is available there, posted April 12--this isn't pushed
automatically.)

2) Retry with Windows Update.

3) if that hasn't fixed it, proceed with the steps in:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918355/en-us

(of which the most relevant will proably be kb 915105's resolution steps)

Microsoft is aware of the problems with updates and is working on them.

Hi Bill,
I have just downloaded the latest version of WD and also switched on
"Automatic Updates" again. After checking for updates within WD still the
message "Up-to-date". So I clicked on the link
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105)provided in the WD interface which
leads to page: Error message after you reinstall WD B2 "WD definitions
haven't been updated" and removed current signature file
Start...Run....Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}. Then I went
to the Windows Update Site, (Signature 1.14.1436.4 KB915597 downloaded, ready
to be installed). So I installed it and :) now I have the "green tick" of
health again!!!!
I hope all goes well with Windows Defender and Updates in the future.
Thank you very much for helping me out, Bill, MUCHLY APPRECIATED!
Cheers,
kulaworld
