Hi,

Does anyone have any views on what's the best printer to get for a about GBP200 or does anyone know of a good place (physical or website) that I can browse and compare Printers?

Can you get printers with scanners built in?

Just not sure what printer to go for so any help appreciated.

Cheers

Epson Stylus R200 or R320

PCWorld, Office World, Dixons, Tesco ... :)

Yes ... waste of money but will do a resonable Office job of work

What do you want the printer to do for you? ... are you going to be printing Photos? ;)

No...Not going to be printing photos but was talking to a fella the other day and he reckons that you can get Colour Printers (good quality), scanners and photo copiers all in one...Sounds just the thing I'm after.

He said that Hp were better than Epson too. You get more functions for your money with epson but less quality.

Does that sound right?

So can anyone actually recommend a specific model?

Cheers

I don't know about 'functions' over quality but the HP PSC range (Printer Scanner Copier) are good and easy to use.

Just pop along to PCWorld / Staples and have a look ... you'll find them all lined up in a row ... ask one of the assistants to show you the ones in your price range.

I actually have an old PSC 500 (you won't find that in the shops) it works, does what it says it does, but photo work is best printed on another printer.

Dont go to pc world, its stupidly over priced. Get on www.ebuyer.com, goto printers, find an all in one and look at the reviews. Im sure you'll find one suitable for what your after for around the £100 mark. £200 for just a simple all in 1, with no intent on printing pictures is far too much.

pc world

I bought a printer from pc world recently, does a great job printing out letters cost £45 and came with all the ink cartridges. As i print in draft mode & greyscale i use even less ink, even got a free usb cable as well:thumb:

HuH!

£3.00 dearer @ PCW is "overpriced" ... and you don't have to wait in on a day for delivery ...

I would not buy a PC from PCWorld ... but any sort of peripheral such as a printer I would see no bother. ;)

I agree, and always check their website first for cheaper prices, then use the 'collect-at-store' function....;)

PC World also lacks variety. Get online, look around, im sure you'll find a better deal.
I don't think anyone is actually saying he should only get one at PC World, the secret is to find the make/model you want, and then search around for the best deal - and that MAY mean PC World....;)

were in the world

Some say i may be mad but i'm not stupid, i did a search on the net for the printer i bought, it was the cheapest i could get it at PC World. They sold it to me £10 cheaper than anyone else, it was some offer they were doing that weekend. So yes shop around but if pc world are selling it cheaper then buy from them. I know a lot of people are against buying from them, but they do some good deals, look in their clearance area, i got a printer ( with print cartridges) for a friend early last year, this way, came with no leads or drivers and was £40 off, now that was a bargain for £20:D Oh and i dont work for the them either, they dont take on highly trained IT specialists like me;)

i got mine from dixons for the same price as online (£80) as a warranty swap for my broken epson which i bought from them 4 years ago

now i have a shiny new one, which cost me nothing.

and the moral of the story is, always get the 5 year warranty.

:p

warranties suck

I have never bought an extended warranty, complete waste of time, when my first one broke down i took it apart and repaired it. My only concern was like MFI furniture i had a screw left over! But it worked well for me & now is used to print way bills for a friend:D

I think for £20 it wan't bad, and it worked out well for you - but frankly I never buy warranty's from shops - they are generally a waste of money - if I ever wanted one, I would go online and cut out the horrendous commission they make

OMG...I must be on a roll this fine Saturday morning before cyclone Larry cuts my power off...No-one has mentioned cartridge. Whatever printer you get, make sure you a SEPERATE cartridge for each colour the printer uses and check out the replacement costs and if you are happy, go for it. sAVE $$$ and avoid the ones with colour bundled into the one cartridge :)
