We had a thread about this a while ago. A summary of the thread is here:

What Makes a Good Post? (excerpts from a June, 2003 thread)

This might be a good time for an update. Suggestions and comments please.

Even a cursory review of
would sharpen a
poster's effectiveness. Of course, for those times when more heat than

Detailed information.

What *should* be is a standardised format, upheld by those who know what
they are doing when they evaluate, or introduce an application here.

This would be something similar to the following example template.

Application Evaluation
======================
Name:
Function:
Status [Beta/Other]:
Requires [JVM/Other]:
Special Attributes:
Features Lacking:
Tested [Y/N]:
OS Used:
Size:
Memory Consumption:
Resource Consumption [1-10]:
Stability Score [1-10]:
Personal Overall Score [1-10]:
Comments:

This would be most useful, could be collaborative and should be as
detailed as possible.

It would also be of value to developers.

Have you tried a nice piece of 3x3 treated timber, or do you prefer
concrete?

Steel actually. . . as in, I had to steel myself to post this.

It may be time to move on to how thick is "thick as a plank". . .

Shouldn't that be "As thick as two short planks."

You know the ones that are two inches wide, one inch long and many
feet in thickness.
