What is the purpose of the "Send Meeting to this Attendee" checkbo

I'm using Outlook 2007 and am wondering what the purpose is of the checkbox
in the Scheduling Assistant window that allows you to check/uncheck "Send
Meeting to this Attendee".

Let's say you don't want to Send the meeting request to that attendee,
the check box provides for that option.
