Is this not the same practice standard through out the whole industry? Do
you not get a system full of things you first must remove when you get it
home. A computer stuffed with malware adware spyware and does not Microsoft
even admit they will sell your information when you register windows. Right
there in the EULA

Thank you for everyone who has been kind enough to take their time to
help.....Hopefully this discussion has also helped others who were not sure
what to do about myway.com. I did go to add/remove and deleted the
program from my computer. It is still listed in add/remove but not
showing any MB's. I really don't want to start messing around with my
registry, so I see no harm in the program being listed, but not being used.
I also checked tools - manage add-ons and it is no longer showing on my
opening page.
Now to start another controversy!!!! I have had weather bug on
my computer for years, I personally liked the program, this group does
not.... nor does the web site listed below. Is this another program that
should not be on ANYONE'S computer? If the answer yes, what do you
suggest as an alternative for weather?
The web suggested http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm is a great place for
some excellent information. They are saying that weather is a parasite....

If you'll check back this thread I mentioned weatherbug. If you have it
installed, I can only say sorry. There is no uninstall [or not when I got it],
there may be one thread on one message board on the Internet asking the same
question you just asked.
When I had it installed it had a habit of hijacking my image associations and
just plain screwing them up. I can't say I ever saw it work as any sort of
weather thing.

I wrote it down for win98 how to remove it. But that was a long time ago and
many drives, and years back.

You can try what I did it's a live and learn lesson, but it may make you a
whole lot more wary of what you say yes to on the web..

1st thing go into regedit.
2nd backup your registry [several places and number the backups date and hour,
you'll need several backups of hit and miss]. Take extensive notes on words
found in the keys.
3rd search entire registry for any entries containing weatherbug. You'll get
into some strange registry keys where the question is it WB or not. Best just
leave the questionable's alone.
4th backup registry, time and date it, reboot. Give it a day or two and go back
in if weatherbug has restored itself. Yes restored itself.
5th backup registry, repeat 1-3, change search term to 'bug'. Delete all key
references to bug if you are 100% sure they belong to weatherbug. Do Step 4.
6th you shouldn't need to do this step. Weatherbug should also be removed from
your add/remove by now.
If not, take a look at the notes you took for www.xxxxx.com. Those web site
links that weatherbug pointed at have to be removed also.
6th change search term to these www links. repeat 1-4.

7th run reg clean. There may be an OS program to do this. Check with M$ for a
registry cleaner. There used to be one. And if you have doubts, backup the
registry at every step above. You might have to reinstall the OS if you delete
the wrong registry entries.

Reinstall OS is a last resort.

Then again if you just recently installed weatherbug you might be able to just
do a system restore to the previous day before it was installed and save lots
of trouble.

That wasn't an option with win98. But that's pretty much what all that registry
stuff above is. a system restore minus weatherbug.

Free screen savers are just as nasty as weatherbug.

Cindy,

I'm not familiar with weather bug, but we use a weather service:
http://www.weatherunderground.com/ .

They have several small icons that you can add to your desktop and maybe the
tray but I don't use them. I did try them once just to see what it was like.

Weatherunderground has a free version which has ads, but for $5/year you can
get a ad free version. I think it's less resource intensive than weather.com
and Accuweather.

I guess you need to analyze what you use weather bug for and ask
yourself if you really need your local temperature constantly
displayed in systray?

Have you discovered weather.com?

Aumha is an excellent resource. But with that said, Weatherbug pushes a lot of ads thru its product. I've only seen them thru the Weatherbug "ad pane". If you use the MVP Hosts file, that will also reduce the weatherbug ads to a very low level.
Beyond the ads, I can't say its a parasite.

Geez, just uncheck Weatherbug from msconfig! If you want to check the weather,
check the doppler from your local TV station.

Weatherbug did give me some trouble after a handful of upgrade cycles. I liked
Weatherbug too. Too bad it was mucking up my computer. Just stop using it.
Complain to Stephanie from Weatherbug Values!
