What happens inside long emails?

This happens in at least Outlook 2002 - why is it that successive emails in
a string move further to the right within a long email string? What I'm
saying is that if you have an email with a lot of replies/forward each email
in the string moves further to the right within the body of the email. Any
ideas?

Because everyone's including all of the prior messages in each reply instead
of (correctly) using cut-and-paste to include only the relevant portions.

Tools | Options | Preferences | E-mail Options

In the Replies and Forwards Options, choose "Include original message text",
NOT "Include and indent original message text." This only affects your
outgoing e-mails though. Your correspondents may have selected other options
for including and displaying original message text.
