What happened to all the CRT's?

I'm currently running 2 Sony F520's and one of them doesn't have much
life left.

So I went out looking for possible replacements (CRT's) and couldn't
find anything good (or anything much for that matter).

Is there anyone left on this planet that makes new CRT's that are
capable of 2048x1536 @ 85HZ?

Has the display industry gone bonkers or is it time to convert to the
LCD religion (have they caught up? how many more years to go?)

Thanks.

Some stores, like Tiger Direct, sell refurbished CRT's. I bought a
refurbished 21" IBM P275 (Trinitron) for $200.00 CAD from a store
locally. LCD's have improved but they still don't stand up to a good CRT.

lcds cost far less to transport = makes more sense for the manufacturers to
make those instead.
plus nobody is going to invest in a new crt plant as the old ones shut down.

Yep, pretty sad that there's nothing better out there.

That one actually can only do max 80Hz at 2048x1536:

http://www.philipschannel.com/monitors/pdf/202P73.pdf

And .25mm dot pitch versus my Sony's .22mm

..25mm dot-pith vs .22mm stripe-pitch, actually.

You're not going to find anything like your 520, in that regard. I
have a F500R (essentially the same thing as your 520), and I'm
dreading the day it needs to be replaced.

Only the ones that care about the customer. IIyama still makes CRT's.

I think you'll find that while Iiyama may still be selling
CRT-based monitors, they most certainly do not make
CRTs. Their corporate web site lists only 15" and 17"
CRT monitors still in production.

Samsung is still in production with CRTs for the monitor
market, as are a number of Chinese suppliers; off the top
of my head, I can't think of any Japanese companies still
engaged in CRT production except for TVs or a few very
specialized applications.
