powerpoint and I have to add a subtitle and I have no clue what I am doing
if Ido not turn this is I will have failed this part of my class

can someone help me out

On the title slide, which is the first slide. There are two placeholders. The
first one says click to add titie, while the second one says click to add
subtitile. You can add your subtitle there.
Not sure what you are asking, perhaps you can be more specific on how you
want us to go about helping you?

You can consider add your name or an explanatory/alternate text on the
subtitle in addition to the main title of your presentation. Its really up to
you on what to add. You can also choose not to add anything on the subtitle
placeholder. If nothing has been added, it will not be shown during the
slideshow.

Take a deep breath. Hold. Now let it out.

OK. Here we go ...

If you choose Insert, New Slide and choose a Title slide, the slide will
already have a "Click here to edit Subtitle" text block on it. Click there,
edit that.

Other slide types don't have any way of adding subtitles automatically like
that, so what you do is choose (from the main menu bar) Insert, Text Box

Click and drag to define a rectangle (text box) that will contain your text
(don't worry, you can change the size and position later).

As soon as you let go of the mouse, you'll see a blinking text cursor in the
box. Type away.

Press the ESC key when done, then format the text to suit your taste (Format,
Font, etc from the main menu or use the toolbars).

You can drag the textbox around by its edges or drag the "selection handles" at
the four corners to change its size/proportion.

Once you get it looking and sitting where you want it, press CTRL+C to copy it,
then move to the next slide and press CTRL+V to paste a copy of the (already
formatted!) text onto the slide. Saves all that formatting. Edit the text if
need be, and you're pretty much good to go.
