What do I do when Office Update cannot scan my computer?

Working on Office Professional 2003, I can connect to the Office Updates
site, however when the update program tries to scan my computer to determine
what updates are required, it fails and I get a message saying office update
could not search your computer. I've tried all of the suggested solutions
found on the Microsoft support site. If anyone has a solution, I would be
grateful to know what it is.

Interesting, I can scan and obtain updates from the Windows update site.
