What are the implications of joining a domain

M

Matthew Speed

A machine has been set up (not by me) as a stand alone W2K3 server
running SQL Server and hosting several IIS sites. The admin has
decided that now they want to use the Windows authentication scheme in
their AD domain. In order to get access to that for permissions I
believe the machine needs to be added to the domain but I am unclear
as to what that will impact having never added a production machine at
this stage, only at the original installation stage.

Since this is a live machine, joining to "see what happens" would be a
very bad idea if it didn't work right.

Any docs out there about this?

Ask them in sqlserver.server

I plan to but I am also concerned about the impact on user accounts.
Should the fact that I have received no answers be taken as an
indication that nothing significant will be affected?

I'll assume you're asking about SQL server and or Windows authentication on
the SQL server. Again I think you'll do best to ask them in sqlserver.server
