WGA Fails, says Vista is not genuine

Guest

I have been using a fully legit Vista HP for several months now. I tried to
download some files off of Microsoft.com today and it was
validation-protected. So I tried to validate it and it failed, and it also
failed the alternate methods provided. Then, I got a message saying that I
may be a victim of counterfeit software. I tried to re-enable Aero, but it
will only revert it to Windows Vista Basic, not Aero. Now when I start up my
computer, I get the same message about it not being legit.

But this version is legit....

How do I fix this?

You don't. You just hope that Microsoft will get their servers back up and
running eventually.

Well there is one thing you "may" be able to do. Look around the newsgroup
for a way to extend your Trial period of your legitimate, paid for, OS.
;) That might work...

Apparently Microsoft's WGA servers are temporarily down. I believe they are
trying for a fix Monday. Try again Tuesday.

I was not being sarcastic, I was being serious.

As far as how I know? Ask google, look around the newsgroup.

You aren't the only one with the problem. It's a confirmed fact that MS
Servers are down. Apparently have been since sometime yesterday AFAIK.

It has been reported in other forums and groups that MS is aware of the
issue and are trying to have the WGA server back up in a few days. Try
again on Tuesday.

Right click on task bar go to startup tab customize "set to zero" restart and
validate and set back to original startup. That just worked for me or they
just fixed it lol im not sure.

How do we know? I don't know. It's just something everyone knows, sorta by
osmosis. It's been reported in Slashdot, MSN, CNN, Yahoo, and the MS forums.
For all I know MS mailed out notices and called everybody (I haven't checked
my answering machine or gone to the box).

The MS forums first reported it 25 Aug at 6:10a.m. UTC, but it was generally
known before then.

I mean, like, EVERYBODY knew about it!

The issue has been resolved.

Visit: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?displaylang=en
and click on "Validate Windows". Afterward, log-off your account and
log back on and the Windows Vista Aero feature will return to normal
functionality.

Greg and those stuck in his position could try this, but I have not
tried it myself, so YMMV.
